Description
"A Bird Man’s Dream," by the world’s most prolific prisoner-artist, Donald “C-Note” Hooker, was specifically created for the exhibition, Art Escape at Alcatraz, May 1, 2017, through June 30, 2017, in the Isle's Band Practice Room.
Showcased next to this work, was a poem by the artist, "Tho Her Name Is Not Gibraltar, Still She’s Called 'The Rock.'” These two works were a part of the exhibition’s private curations and were the center piece in one of the four display cases in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Marin County Free Library in the Frank Lloyd Wright Complex. Other works created by this artist for the exhibition were the poetic works, "Thy Haloed Land, 1st Nation Speaks!," and "No Southern Shall Governor This Isle," about a general from the South, appointed to govern the island during the American Civil War. Another visual work, "Midnight at Alcatraz," was included.
